AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Dr. Afrooz specializes in development, evaluation, and implementation of stormwater management tools and best management practices (BMP) that ensure stormwater discharge with minimal impact on freshwater/marine ecosystems. Dr. Afrooz has extensive research experience in physicochemical and biological treatment processes in mitigating water pollution resulting from particulate, chemical, and microbial contaminants. His current research explores ways for improved stormwater monitoring in Southern California. He is also interested in assessing the effectiveness of existing stormwater BMPs and designing green infrastructures with enhanced performance that inform BMP implementation in California and beyond.
