Dr. Dovi Kacev

Dovi Kacev specializes in studying the population community ecology of pelagic fish species. Dr. Kacev combines the use of molecular, telemetry and quantitative tools to study species that are traditionally data poor and have cryptic life histories. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on using both genetics and satellite tagging to understand population connectivity in two highly migratory shark species. As a joint postdoctoral researcher between SCCWRP and the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center, his current research focuses on using high throughput genetic identification (metabarcoding) of planktonic fish stages to understand human impacts on pelagic fish communities. He also participates in multiple community outreach and educational programs to bring marine ecology to local communities.
