SHELLY L. MOORE – Information Research Scientist

EDUCATION:

M.S., Biology, California State University, Long Beach, 1998

B.S., Marine Biology, California State University, Long Beach, 1991

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Moore is an Information Research Scientist at SCCWRP and specializes in all aspects of data management, analysis and visualization. Her current projects include managing data for many large-scale environmental research and monitoring projects, including but not limited to the Bight Surveys and the Regional Watershed Survey. She has been instrumental in creating data validation systems for multiple projects that allows users to submit comparable data to SCCWRP for use by scientists and environmental managers in making decisions regarding the marine and estuarine environments in southern California. Her current projects include the Surfer Health Survey, San Diego Bay Fish Consumption Study, and the Bight’13 Debris Study. She has been instrumental in developing an easy to use web-based application for the Benthic Response Index and an online Taxonomic Database tool for the Southern California Association of Marine Invertebrate Taxonomists (SCAMIT). She is currently working toward developing additional web-based tools and Virtual/Augmented Reality technologies.

Previously, Moore worked in the Fish Biology Group where she specialized in data analysis of fish and invertebrate communities and marine debris in the Southern California Bight. Moore earned her B.S. in marine biology and M.S. in biology from California State University, Long Beach. Her thesis research examined the age and growth of white croaker (Genyonemus lineatus) off of Palos Verdes and Dana Point, California.
