DORIS E. VIDAL-DORSCH - Ecotoxicologist

EDUCATION:

Ph.D., Integrative Biology, University of California, Berkeley, 2001

B.S., Civil Engineering, Instituto Tecnológico del Mar, 1993

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Dr. Vidal-Dorsch received her undergraduate degree from the "Instituto Tecnológico del Mar" in Mexico and her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Her dissertation research involved laboratory studies of heavy metal effects on the resistance and adaptation of the oligochaete worms, Sparganophilus pearsei and Tubifex tubifex. While at the University, Dr. Vidal-Dorsch also participated in research to evaluate anthropogenic effects on San Francisco Bay and the use of wetlands for bioremediation.

Dr. Vidal-Dorsch's experience and training includes aquatic toxicology, invertebrate taxonomy, field biology, engineering, analytical chemistry, and physiology. As a member of the Toxicology Department at SCCWRP, she specializes in studies to understand the relationship between sediment contamination and biological effects. Her current research includes the development of methods to identify toxic constituents in sediments, studies of contaminant bioavailability, and the assessment of biochemical and molecular responses to environmental contaminants such as endocrine disruptors and other contaminants of emerging concern in wild fish populations.
