The Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), an inter-governmental environmental research agency, announces a full-time position for a research-oriented modeler to study sources and fates of environmental contaminants in aquatic environments. The position requires experience in watershed, surface water, sediment transport and/or ground water models, including but not limited to HPSF, SWMM, HEC, and MODFLOW, as well as a strong understanding of physical and chemical processes governing pollutant behavior in aquatic environments.
The successful candidate will work with SCCWRP staff and other research partners on development, calibration, application, and evaluation of models related to the sources, fate and transport of a broad range of contaminants including nutrients, metals, and organics in streams, estuaries, and the nearshore marine environment. Duties may include coordination and logistical support, field data collection, data management and analysis, and report/manuscript publication. The position entails coordination with research partners in other agencies and academia. Good communication skills are required.
The preferred candidate will possess a Masters or Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering, oceanography, geomorphology, geology, or a related discipline. Masters candidates must have at least 5 years of direct experience and documented ability to conduct independent research and publish. Salary range is $50-70K, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

The position requires the ability to use Microsoft SQL Server and/or Microsoft Access (or similar database program). Knowledge of VBA and other programming languages such as HTML, PHP or Perl is considered a plus.
The successful candidate will work with SCCWRP staff and other research partners to manage large environmental databases, create data display and analyses tools, and provide technical support. Topic areas include a wide range of environmental disciplines including but not limited to research on the physical, chemical, and biological condition of the ocean as well as streams and wetlands. Duties will include database creation and management, data tool production, and program support for staff. The position requires interaction with scientists from academia and various governmental and environmental organizations. Good communication skills are required.
The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelors degree in a science related field with computer experience or a Bachelors degree in computer science with some knowledge of environmental science. Salary range is $40-60K, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

The Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), an inter-governmental coastal/marine research agency, is seeking a part-time employee to provide computer and network support. The position requires familiarity with computer hardware and software (i.e. Microsoft Office) systems and networking systems. Knowledge of command line driven programs such as Linux/Unix is not required but considered a plus. Duties will include providing computer support for staff in the form of installing software and hardware, troubleshooting, and providing technical support for conference room presentations. The position requires interaction with staff and good communication skills.
The preferred candidate will be a local student in a computer science related field and who is available 12-20 hours a week, preferably in the morning. Salary is $10-12 an hour depending on experience.

The Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority (SCCWRP), an inter-governmental coastal/marine research agency, is seeking an early to mid-career scientist with general expertise in trace environmental contaminants. Of particular interest are candidates with expertise in bioaccumulation/bioavailability/trophic transfer, passive measurement technology (e.g., SPME), and contaminant source identification.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop, manage and complete applied research projects within his/her specialty area. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals are a must. The position is within SCCWRP's Chemistry Department, which features technical staff and facilities to support lab and field studies, including SPME-compatible GC-MS and compound-specific IRMS systems.
The preferred candidate will possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field (Environmental Chemistry, Engineering or Science) with post-doctoral and/or 2 years professional experience; a M.S. plus -5 years of direct, full time experience will be considered. Salary range is $60-80K, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
