Ananda Ranasinghe



Ananda Ranasinghe is a quantitative biologist specializing in the ecology of organisms living in estuarine and marine bottom sediments. He received his undergraduate degree in Zoology, with honors, from the University of Sri Lanka in Colombo in 1975 and a master's degree in Marine Science (Biology) from the University of Alabama in 1983. Ananda joined SCCWRP in October 1999. Previously, he was a senior scientist at Versar, Inc., in Columbia, Maryland where he led the State of Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Benthic Monitoring Program and developed ecological indicators to assess the condition of aquatic resources. His current research interests include developing ecological indicators and understanding benthic community dynamics in the Southern California Bight.
