Dr. Daniel McCoy
Dr. Danny McCoy is a Scientist in the Biogeochemistry Department, specializing in ocean biogeochemical modeling. At SCCWRP, he develops and evaluates coupled physical and biogeochemical models to investigate how nutrient inputs influence coastal ecosystems. His work supports efforts to understand coastal eutrophication, oxygen loss, and harmful algal blooms, and to evaluate strategies for nutrient management. His previous research examined how ocean circulation and microbial activity shape marine nitrogen and carbon cycling, particularly in oxygen-deficient waters.
He received his Ph.D. and M.S. in atmospheric and oceanic sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles, and B.S. in global environmental science from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He joined SCCWRP in 2026. Before joining SCCWRP, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Science.
