Dr. John Griffith

Dr. John F. Griffith is the head of SCCWRP’s Microbiology Department and Coordinator of Molecular Technology at SCCWRP. His research efforts focus on development and evaluation of methods for detection and enumeration of microbes and eDNA in fresh and marine waters, and relationships between water quality indicators and swimming-related illness. He has written over 80 articles on use of bio-indicators, prokaryotic and viral diversity, recreational water quality, microbial source tracking and relationships between water quality indicators and swimming-related illness.

He received his B.S. in environmental studies and biology in 1995, and Ph.D. in marine biology and biological oceanography in 2006, both from the University of Southern California. John joined SCCWRP in 2001.
