SCCWRP is participating in a scientific expert panel that is helping to guide the Los Angeles region in long-term planning to dramatically scale up wastewater recycling practices while minimizing potential negative environmental effects.

The panel, convened by Los Angeles Waterkeeper and the University of California, Los Angeles, met for the first time in February to develop recommendations on key issues that the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, City of Los Angeles, and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California have agreed need to be addressed to meet an ambitious, 40-year plan to reduce the Los Angeles region’s reliance on imported water by 70%.

SCCWRP’s Dr. Eric Stein was invited to serve on the expert panel to help develop recommendations around environmental flows, water quality monitoring, and nutrient and brine loading.

A draft report with the panel’s preliminary recommendations is expected to be published later this spring.
